Portions of all donations go to fund our Open Air Shelter Programs.  Island Dog provided 100,000+ pounds of dog/cat food to the US Caribbean Islands every year.  While the food is donated, we spend over $10,000 a year in transporting the food from the US mainland to San Juan, Puerto Rico.

How we spent donation money in 2010
Things YOU Should Know About OUR Budget

-We pay vet bills.  Contrary to popular belief veterinarian's charge non-profit animal rescues for their services.  While we do receive a discount, we still incur large monthly bills.  Please understand our vets work overtime, underpaid, and overwhelmed both emotionally and physically to care for our rescues.  What most of us don't realize is that veterinarian's are human.  They have student loans, families, lease/mortgages for their facilities, medical supplies/testing/medication costs, electric, water, staff, and up-keep of facilities.  Island Dog helps thousands of dogs annually.  We would never be able to help the amount of animals we help without the generosity and kindness of our veterinarian's.

-The airlines DO NOT provide discounts for flying our dogs.  In 2010 we paid the airlines over $10,000 to ship our dogs.
